Just came in via Chris de Burgh Newsletter:
We've just received the information that Chris de Burgh has been asked to become the head of Germany's „Piratenpartei“ (pirate party), for the elections in autumn 2013! The Piratenpartei is a young political movement, which is focussed on the freedom of the internet, transparency and against all governmental regulations. They are slowly taking over Germany, having recently become part of the parliaments of the German Länder Berlin and Saarland. It's not coming as a surprise that they want Chris de Burgh to be their number one next year, running for the office of chancellor, regarding his popularity in Germany and the connection with his 2010 album Moonfleet & Other Stories, which was based on a novel about pirates and a hidden treasure.
Chris de Burgh's imitation of pirate language („arrrrrrrrhhh“) has become a classic, and will be helpful in the communication with his fellow party members. The fact that Chris de Burgh does not hold a German passport is of minor concern, since the idea of having a non-German chancellor of Germany corresponds with the Piratenpartei's idea of a globalized world. Many classical Chris de Burgh songs could become themes of the party platform, such as „Don't Pay The Ferryman“ (financial program) „Living In The World“ (international relations), „High On Emotion“ (health issues), etc. It's also a well-known fact that current chancellor Angela Merkel is quite fond of Chris de Burgh, since he sang „Lady In Red“ to her on the Christmas party of the CDU last year, so a possible coalition would be based on this harmonic relationship.
We do not have any knowledge yet, what Chris de Burgh himself thinks of this idea and whether or not he will accept this proposal, but we'll keep you updated with more info. Just imagine how the 2013 tour could turn into an election campaign! Wow!
